A bit of a brief back ground history.

I’m a male and am 29 years old. I have always been fit and healthy and all my studies and work has been in the fitness field. I looked after my skin and health and always looked much younger than my age.

Five years ago I was walking home from work and went to draw out some cash and the next thing I knew I awoke 11 months later from a coma; I had been attacked by three Heroin Addicts and left for dead on the pavement. I awoke and could not speak due to the brain damage and I could not walk due to the spinal damage. I also had the most terrible scarring and marks on my face due to them stamping on my head and face. I was in hospital for 2.5 years and I learnt to do everything again. I lost s kidney and part of my liver and my spleen and I had to have a spinal cord Stimulator due to the pain in my legs. So any way to cut a long story short I looked a mess my face looked like I was dead!! I was pale and grey and my skin looked sallow and dry and like the living dead.

My Aunt very kindly saw that I was no longer going out of the house as I did not have the confidence and new I did not have the energy to apply loads of creams to my face so she bought me the Serum Hydra Gold and the Serum Vitalizing C. “The Rose Sheet”

E’shee Clinical Esthetic joins an emerging segment within anti-aging cosmeceuticals with its peptidepowered skin-care products that deliver results by activating stem cells in skin.

The Somerville, N.J.-based firm says it is the first personal-care company to use acidic fibroblast growth factor, or FGF-1, a heparin-binding protein involved in tissue repair and wound healing.

Although it characterizes FGF-1 as “stem cell technology,” the company is quick to note online that its products “aren’t about putting embryonic stem cells in a jar and slathering them all over your face. Instead the technology focuses on using polypeptides and enzymes to ‘awaken’ the body’s own reservoir of epidermal stem cells to rejuvenate the skin.”

In June 22 interview, E’shee founder Nataly Giter acknowledged that “stem cells make some people nervous.” However, “the customer is also more educated now. It is not about taking someone’s and applying them to yourself, it’s about repairing [damage to] your own cells from aging and pollution.” With aging, the function of stem cells in skin repair is less efficient. “If stem cells are not getting signals, there are not repairs,” Giter explained. “FGF-1 delivers the signal to start rejuvenating.” As opposed to Botox and other injectable fillers, “our products trigger the body to do its job. It doesn’t artificially fill the wrinkles,” said Giter.

Giter learned of FGF-1 from Ohio University professor Dr. Ing-Ming Chiu, who was first to clone the human FGF-1 gene. Chiu’s research has explored the growth factor’s use to address neurological damage and broken capillaries, as well as skin. Giter got involved about 10 years ago and started laying the groundwork for a line of skin-care products.

Fibroblast growth factors are signaling molecules that play important roles in the processes of cell proliferation and differentiation. FGF-1 interacts with multiple receptors to not only revitalize the epidermis – as is possible with epidermal growth factor, or EGF, which many cosmetics manufacturers use, according to E’shee – but also to stimulate underlying fibroblast cells that produce collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

According to the company, use of its products that contain FGF-1 makes “skin cells grow 10 to 20 times faster than if using any other skin-care products.”

Firm Offers Six-Ampoule Set

E’shee’s collection consists of six products that sell in spas and physicians’ offices, as well as at EsheeEsthetic.com. The brand promises “wrinklefree skin within 30 days.”

Gene Therapy Serum for Cellular Repair is “the only product on the market that combines hyaluronic acid and FGF-1,” the firm notes. The results are firmer skin with increased volume, disappearance of fine lines and a reduction in deep wrinkles. Giter says the serum also “cuts off healing time by up to 60 percent after plastic surgery.” A 0.34-oz ampoule is $179.

Giter is providing training seminars to physicians and spa technicians on how to use the product, as well as how to use it in combination with other products in the company’s stable.

Gene Therapy Serum for Cellular Repair and Bota Therapy Concentrate Serum ($189) work together to deliver “lifting action” and improve skin quality, Giter said. Bota Therapy awards a nearly 30 percent reduction in the appearance of “dynamic” wrinkles after 30 days of use, decreasing facial lines and wrinkles by up to 68 percent in 45 to 60 days, according to E’shee.

Other offerings include Serum Hydra Gold, which mimics a facial and includes flecks of gold leaf, and Serum Vitalizing “C” which facilitates the transfer of Vitamin C into cells to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin. Each is priced at $119.

Serum Intensive Brightening, also $119, is an “intensive booster treatment” that corrects pigmentations spots and skin discoloration from acne, the firm says. The antioxidant product contains 15 percent L-ascorbic acid and 1.5 percent m-Transexamic Acid.

“Every week Marta gives away a product or two, and sometimes even more to a wanting reader for absolutely free. All you as the lucky recipient have to do is return to her, a review. A gift of joy to one that produces a beneficial gift to many is genius, and her generosity to give these products is commendable too. I have never asked to review a product before, and it always did seem so wonderful and simple to do. That’s what I thought until Marta sent me E’shee.

Please don’t get me wrong, as using this high-end luxurious serum has certainly brought me joy, but reviewing it, well that hasn’t been as simple as I had thought. At 49 I’ve become fairly good at curtailing my sun sign Leo’s urges for impractical luxuries that I’d be better off not to afford. That was until Marta’s package arrived. The Leo part of me was ecstatic, hasn’t shut up since, and skewed this review from the very start.

Two tiny .34 oz. ampoules of E’shee Vitalizing Serum C and Intensive Brightening serums, valued at $119 each, came luxuriously nestled in a pristine lily-white box. If presentation says anything, then this presentation says that you are in possession of something luxurious and very specia. Unlike Marta my skin does like vitamin C, so E’shee’s vitamin C serum was the first ampoule I decided to open.

Liposome vitamin C is second in the ingredient list after water, and it’s this ingredient that its high price can be attributed to. We’re paying for the technology in this ingredient and apparently this technology comes at considerable cost. Here’s what E’shee’s website has to say about their Liposome Vitamin C. “We are using the newest delivery method, the Liposomal Technology. This technology has greatly improved and updated the transfer of vitamin C into the cells.” Marketing mumbo jumbo usually explains little, so I went to Wikipedia for some clarification. Now I’m impressed! Liposome vitamin C is definitely not something we can throw in our carts at the Lotioncrafters website. I’ll save you the time I already checked, this was a long shot but I wanted to be absolutely sure. Along with liposome vitamin C this serum gives us copper PCA, antioxidants mulberry and ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo biloba is an anti-inflammatory too; so throw in an anti-irritant with bubble encased C’s and even sensitive skins like Marta’s will love this serum. Marta you really, really do need to give this one a try! Sadly there are a couple of nasty preservatives that E’shee has put in, void of these it would be a much lovelier mix.

Low hazard silicone cyclomethicone makes this serum glide beautifully across the skin. So silky due to it, that 3 tiny drops can cover an entire face if sectioned accordingly. Four drops a day for a Leo’s excessive nature makes an ampoule last about 6 weeks, while 8 is possible if you can stop the drops at 3. Its soft scent reminds me of an orange creamcicle, a scent I’d love to hold onto but this too soon dissipates in minutes.

This is a nighttime serum with lightweight moisturizers that has overall improved the color of my skin. Making it much healthier looking. 4 weeks probably isn’t long enough for wrinkle reduction, but with its technologically advanced delivery system this just might be possible. So if money weren’t a consideration, this Leo would be putting E’shee’s Vitalizing C Serum on a monthly auto ship and we’d be using 8 drops every day instead of 4!

“There are two notable things about E’shee’s serum, which I reviewed and recommended a few weeks ago and which I am still using in my daily regimen. The first is that it is one of my most expensive finds ($178 for 10 ml or 0.34 fl oz.) and the second is that it seems to be having a very notable effect on deep wrinkles and broken veins. Both are probably due to the active ingredient being FGF1, a human growth factor. But I was also struck by a comment from Susan saying: “It seems a shame that the HGF ingredient is last on the list. With such a small amount used and no other extraordinary ingredients, the price hardly seems justified.” I needed to know more about FGF1.

Fibroblast growth factors, or FGFs, are a family of growth factors involved in angiogenesis and wound healing, There are 22 of them in all and for some reason FGF1 is known as “acidic fibroblast growth factor”. FGFs are multifunctional proteins with a wide variety of effects; they are most commonly mitogens, meaning that they encourage cell division. They also seem to be incredibly complex and are involved in other activities such as cell regulation.

Apparently, FGF1s activates the biological signals of FGF2 and FGF7 (also known as KGF). This means that FGF1 signals FGF2 to get on with fibroblast growth and produce collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin, while telling FGF7 to get busy with hair follicles and grow hair. FGF7 is also responsible for keratinocyte resulting in rejuvenated skin.

FGF1s also support angiogenesis, which is the growth of new blood vessels from existing ones. Is this why my broken veins seem to be diminishing? This angiogenesis business also means that FGF1 encourages the formulation of “granulation tissue”, which fills up a wound space early in the wound healing process. Is this why I think my crows feet are filling in?

Although FGF1s are widely regarded to have loads of phamaceutical potential, there are some issues. It seems that they have low thermal stability and high sensitivity to proteases (things that break down proteins). I am pleased say that the same Polish researchers that rained on my parade with that observation (source) in 2008 also speculated that  “advanced design techniques” would sort that out. At $178 for a tiny bottle, let’s hope E’shee has.

Actually, E’shee gets its FGF1 from a Dr Ing Ming Chiu of Ohio State University.  Dr Chiu is said to have been the first to clone the FGF1 gene and it seems he also holds lengthy and complex patents on using FGF1 for skin care. Well, who can condemn him for a little entrepreneurial opportunism.

FGF1 is much researched and its mechanisms are well understood, but I haven’t found independent studies on its roll in cosmetic or antaging skin care. Nor, to Susan’s point, do I know what the optimal concentration is supposed to be. All I can offer you conclude are my own observations using E’shee and that the business of an FGF1 seems to be all about fibroblast growth, which is certainly what I could do with.”
