So what is the difference between sunblock and sunscreen?

Sunblock this is something what physically “blocks” the sun rays. Ingredients used in sunblock are zink oxide and titanium dioxide. These are natural ingredients, relatively big particles. They do not penetrate the skin. These particles spreading on the skin surface creating physical shield which protect us by reflecting the sun rays, like a mirror.

Sunscreen uses chemical compounds, which penetrate the skins surface and protecting our skin by absorbing and neutralizing UV rays.

One of the other aspects lots of people unaware of – sun protection needs to be re-applied frequently in order to remain effective. How often you should re-apply yours depends on the brand. Please always ask or do some research yourself before you buy it.

I remember sitting at one of the training sessions for professionals and listening to the information on their sun protection line. The instructor was telling us to instruct our clients to re-apply their sunscreen every 20-30 minutes! And I was thinking to myself: Who will ever do it? I am a woman, and I am a professional skin therapist, and I know I wouldn’t.

So please always ask or do some research yourself before you buy it. Good news is what some sun protection only needs to be re-applied every 6 to 8 hours. Those will make your life much easier. Usually the water-proof Sunblock is the one which holds on longer. Waterproof is great not only for swimming, but for long lasting protection and does not fades easily from your skins surface then you sweat. I love those!

Sunscreen usually needs to be re-applied more often. The chemical particles in it are able to neutralize only so many photons, then they getting destroyed.

What SPF do you need? Then it comes to protection, I would say more is better. SPF 15 is a minimum anybody should use. If you use less than that – and you just wasting your time and money. And lower the SPF, the more often you have to re-apply it. You would say what you use a day cream with sun protection. Well, most of those contain only 15% SPF, and you should know what you need to re-apply it few times a day, and unless you really, honestly planning on doing so, do not count on it too much.

As everybody already heard, it is not too much of the difference between SPF 30 and SPF 45, and even less difference between SPF 45 and 70. Yes, it is true. But, for example, if your doctor will say to you what you will have 50% chance or 52% chance – which one you’ll like better? I know which one I’ll take!

My advice: get a good moisturizer and don’t worry too much about sun protection in it, and get a sun protection cream separately. It can be very simple one; it is no need to look for additional vitamins, or nutrients, or else in this. It has to be SPF 30 or more, UVA and UVB protection, waterproof.

Very important to get the protection from both UVA and UVB rays. So then you buying you sun protection, please check if it says “UVA and UVB protection”.
